PREACH TEACH SERVE

Exploring Membership

We welcome all who would seek to be a disciple of Jesus and a faithful member of Christ’s holy Church.  We believe newcomers to our church have gifts and graces that we need.  Likewise, we believe our members have gifts and graces that can bless you as well.  Together, sharing our gifts under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we build the Kingdom.

If you are new to Christ church, we encourage you to attend a “Purpose Driven Member” class as early as you can.  These five week small group classes are offered in two formats.  First, during the Sunday school hour.  This is a great way to springboard into a Sunday school class.  And second, at our pastor's home on Thursday evenings.  Watch the newsletter and weekly bulletin for start dates.  If you would like to attend, please sign up when the classes are offered.  You may also call the church office at (704) 637-7843 for more details.

If you have never made a profession of faith, or If you have been visiting and believe that God is leading you to make Christ United Methodist Church your church home, we encourage you to contact Pastor Jim or the church office immediately.  Pastor Jim will sit down and discuss how best to welcome you into the family!  During this conversation, we will get to know each other and discuss what is necessary to become a member of Christ church.  Please feel free to ask any questions that you have at this or any time.

If you are a member of another Christian denomination, your baptism will be recognized and accepted. You will not be re-baptized. Joining the church will include taking the vow of church membership which asks, “Will you be faithful to Christ and His Church and support it with your prayers, presence, gifts, and services?”
Those who have never been baptized and those who transfer from another Christian denomination are highly encouraged to attend the “New Member/Methodism 101” class when offered so that your decision to be an active part of CUMC will be an informed one.

If you are a member of another United Methodist Church and you wish to join CUMC, your membership will be transferred.  Pastor Jim will speak with you about your membership and answer any questions you may have.

We encourage all incoming members to take a spiritual gift assessment.  Ask Pastor Jim or call the church office for details.
