Our Missions Team seeks out opportunities to improve the lives of our church family and our surrounding community. Many of our missions projects focus on collecting items such as shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child to creating Love Bags for the homeless. We also love to help improve the landscapes and interiors of homes in disrepair. Please contact the church if you or someone you know could use our help in completing a need or repair in our community.
MISSIONS TEAM NEWS
Sunday, July 23rd, we will be going to Enfield, NC, for our annual mission trip. This an area of North Carolina, where the poverty rate is really high. We were originally going to Plymouth, NC, but have been changed to go a brand new area for CROSS Mission. As this will be a new place for us, it we will the first team to work in this area. This is an exciting time for CROSS Mission as they are expanding their outreach.
As I sit thinking of all the trips I’ve been on, there are too many memories to list them all. So l started thinking about how I started going on these mission trips. Earl Sawyer, who some of you probably didn’t know, was instrumental in getting me to go on my first trip to Tarboro, NC, after the flood of the Tar River. What a trip that was. We were housed in a mobile home with at least eight of us sleeping in the same room. That in itself was an adventure. But what I took away from that trip has stuck with me for a very long time. I really got to know people from our church that I usually only saw at church, some new carpentry skills, plus a real passion for giving to people that we had never met and wouldn’t probably ever see again. We can only hope and pray that the people we have helped down through the years, stop and think about the teams of people who came and helped in their time of need. I know that I still think of every one of them vividly.
So I’ve said all this to encourage everyone who wants to go and help others, please sign up. Again, the dates of the Mission Trip to Enfield, NC, are July 23-July 28. We have been told there is no limit on how many we can bring on this trip. The director said the more the merrier! If you can’t go, please consider contributing to the mission team, monetarily or by contributing water, Gatorade, food, snacks and, of course, much needed prayers--not just for our team, but to the community we are going to help.
