PREACH TEACH SERVE
United Methodist WomenWELCOME!!
We, the United Methodist Women (UMW), invite you to join us as we unite in Christ for 2009, to be a BEACON OF LIGHT to the world. We will do this through Missions at the local level, throughout our region and globally. Our meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM in Fellowship Hall.
YOU ARE CALLED FOR A PURPOSE!
The PURPOSE of the United Methodist Women is as follows: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. The emblem of UMW, the cross and the flame, symbolizes our organization. They are ancient symbols of the church and appear on the UM emblem. Both symbols remind us of the opportunities and obligations of discipleship.
MISSIONS ARE OUR MISSION!!
Mission work supported by UMW spans the globe, but the mission structure begins in the local and district unit. We are creative and supportive and this emerges through worship, praying, sharing, studying, working, and serving. Together we work to resist racism and economic oppression and build an inclusive community. United Methodist Women draw upon the whole Bible to understand the mission mandate of Jesus, who said: "Just as you did it to the least of these...you did it to me." Matthew 25:40
Plans are still in the works for our Yard/Craft/Bake Sale on September 26. If you would like to participate, please see Jill, Pat, or Sharon. We will be looking for unique items for this year’s sale. We are also planning a silent auction again, so if you have any items to donate for that please let us know.
MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Penny Fundraiser for our entire church - to help support Fran Lynch with her mission in Alaska; helping reach children in remote villages and ministering to them and their families. Individual churches do not support missionaries any longer. They have to raise a lot of their own funds and get support from their conference. There are collections jugs in each Sunday School Classroom and a large jar in the Narthex. We encourage everyone to save their pennies and fill up our jugs. This will be an ongoing project.
Campbell Product UPC's, again for the entire church. There is a collection box for the UPC's in the Narthax and some information sheets telling what products you may use in order to have the correct UPC's. There is a little Campbell boy's face by the UPC. Cut that with the UPC, please. This collection will be ongoing and will benefit Red Bird Mission in Kentucky. They will be able to buy school furniture, equipment and supplies. It only takes a minute to cut these off of your Campbell products and they will be so beneficial in helping Red Bird Mission help the children they are ministering to.
Prayer Shawl Ministry - Headed by Brenda Shoaf, prayer shawls and lapghans are being made by several women in the church and will be given out on request to those in need. If you can knit or crochet, and would like to be a part of this ministry, please talk to Brenda and she will get you started. If you need some instructions or a refresher course, we will put a class together and show you how to get started. If you simply cannot knit or crochet and really don't want to learn, you can be a part of this ministry by donating supplies or making a cash donation so that we can buy supplies. It is a wonderful outreach to those who are ill or in pain and we are making a difference in the lives of these people.
